San Francisco

We just spent a whole week in beautiful San Francisco (sigh).....
It was an amazing week, full of good food, fun, and memories; past memories that came back and new ones we definitely built with Diego.

The main reasons for our trip were a seminar I've been wanting to take -for very long time (and I finally did) and taking Diego to the city we love so deeply.

Since we moved from SF, we have visited the city more than a handful of times, but definitely, this one was much more special; showing our little boy the places we loved, used to go and lived in, meant a lot to us.

A few weeks ago I read something that still resonates in my mind: "The heartbreak of leaving a place you love could be compared to the heartbreak of leaving someone you love." How true. For us, Aude and myself, it feels a little like that. Being a tourist in a place you used to call home is not easy either (especially that kind of place), that sense of belonging makes it tough.

I don't cross out the possibility of moving there again. Who knows, right? Instead of retiring in Florida -which is a state I don't get at all- maybe one day we'll retire to my beloved city by the bay.

On a different note, If you go with kids to San Fran, here some ideas of places to take them to:
The Golden Gate Bridge (strolling the bridge up and down can be very exciting for a kid).
The Golden Gate Park (a few different things to do in one big park).
Yerba Buena Gardens (a beautiful garden in the middle of downtown SF).
Pier 39 at the Fisherman's Wharf (not to be missed if you go with kiddos).
The Coit Tower (the view up there is breathtaking. going up to the tower is exciting).
Ocean Beach (the Pacific Ocean as beautiful as it could possibly be).
The Ferry Building and the farmers market (Goodies to buy. Good place to have lunch. Great views from the decks of the building).
A ride on the ferry from San Francisco to Oakland and back (very easy to take from The Ferry Building. Nice ride. Amazing views).
A ride on the cable car (a must. The quintessential SF).
Dolores Park (beautiful view of the city. great playground for kids).
Palace of Fine Arts (beautiful place, quiet and perfect to take a big breath and contemplate your surroundings).

Have a good weekend, everyone.
Good health and peace to you.

Kindergarten

It seems we have finally found a school we really like for D. to start elementary school next fall. I know, it seems so early to start the process, but in order to pick the school we really wanted we needed to start this early. What a relief. What a big relief. We toured at least 10 schools in the last 2 months. In our district, out of our district, public schools and private schools, charter schools and whatever's left in the middle, and somehow there was always something that didn't click to me when touring all those schools. All of them -btw- with very high scores and super nice reviews, but still, there was something that didn't convince me. It happened the same to me when I was looking for preschools for D. two years ago. I visited many, until I went to one that felt right to me instantly, it felt right in my heart. And that was how I felt yesterday morning when we visited the very last school in our list to tour, it felt right. I liked the school, thank God, I liked ...

Lately

It's been so long. I feel I haven't post anything in ages. Life has been seriously busy lately, that's why. And it seems that is the general tendency among friends. Whoever I talk to, they are trying to juggle a million things at once. That's life these days, I guess. The news have been scary, lately. Around the globe. Very scary. This year we have seen all kind of sadness, craziness, nonsense around the world. Even natural disasters have been horrific. And it seems it escalates year after year. To be honest the last few motnhs I have felt the need to hide, to retreat and protect my loved ones. To move somewhere where nothing can reach us, not even social media or TV... -especially social media and TV- But how? How we protect the people we love? How do we hide? Where do we go? Not sure where the world is going and if you have kids it can get really really scary at times. Is this the world we are leaving to them? What I'm sure about though is that more ...

Madison in the summer

For some reason, I don't want to let go of the idea of warm summer-days this year.  Every year and right at this point when summer is kind of fading away and the cool breeze rolls into the city, I usually feel excited and inspired by the arrival of the Fall season and its beautiful colors; not this year. I'm longing for more sunny days, and sunshine and summer scenes like the ones below in my pictures. Not ready for layers yet. Not ready for cold days. But we live in the northern midwest area of the country and seasons don't play around here, they get on time and do their job. I won't complain much, still three full weeks of summer (with grandma and grandpa) and to be fair September is a gorgeous month in Madison as well. Some pictures of beautiful Madison in the summer. Good week to all. Peace and good health, friends.
